Solve Your Seating Plan Dilemmas

I don’t know about you, but we’re finding the weeks are flying by. If you’re having a summer wedding, you may well be in the throes of finalising your RSVP’s and working through the dilemma of your seating plan, we have a few tips for you:

Tip 1: It’s always best to have a seating plan, even if you’re having an informal buffet, it saves the panic of trying to grab the ‘best seat’. If you’re having a very informal or small wedding, you can still create your table plan but maybe let your guests choose their seats at the table.

Tip 2: Traditionally the top table with include the bride and groom, their parents, the best man and chief bridesmaid. If there are divorced parents you may want to consider including their new partners, if this is not possible sit them as close to the top table as possible.

Tip 3: Sit young children with their parents but consider sitting the older children together. For the younger children, think about getting crayons and a colouring book to entertain them. Sit guests with babies near to the edge so they can easily leave the room if the baby starts crying during the speeches.

Tip 4: Try to keep groups of friends together where you can they’ll have a better time with people they know. At the same time avoid having a table of ‘left over people’ mix them in across all the tables, try to sit these guest so they know at least one person on the table.

Tip 5: Avoid putting people together who don’t get along and don’t try to match make! Think about common interests for those people who don’t know many people when deciding where to sit them, really try and think about who will get on best together.

Tip 6: Don’t create your table plan too early, you’ll find people unfortunately drop out.

Tip 7: Try not to get too stressed over this, do what feels right for you. All you can do is place people where you think they’ll be most comfortable, the rest is up to them
