Printing your own invitations: what can go wrong

I often hear from brides who are really worried about making their own invites, particularly how to print them.

It might be something you’ve been worrying about too.

You don’t want to make a mistake.

Or waste card.

Or spend ages trying to get it right, then have the invitation ruined by poor quality printing.

It can be a real headache – and here a few of the reasons why.

1. Smudged ink. If you’ve chosen a pearlised card, you really need to use a laser printer – ink-jet printing will smudge. Ink jet printing should look fine on matt or recycled card, though.

2. Wonky printing and off-centre messages. If you’ve ever wrestled with printing anything but standard A4 Word documents, you’ll know that setting up documents for print can be a nightmare.

3. Wasted paper and ink. Always make sure you print a test first, to make sure everything looks okay – and to check your spelling! A home-printing money-saving exercise could turn into an expensive mistake.

4. The paper is too heavy for the printer. My invitation cards are a minimum of 270gsm, because anything thinner is too flimsy and feels cheap – so check your printer can handle it!

Because of all these issues, a few years ago I decided I’d just do the printing for you. So now all my designs include our high spec printing service. Not only that, my artwork team will format your personalised wording to suit the font and design you’ve chosen.

All you need to do is carefully check your digital proof and let us know if there are any changes. We’ll produce one reproof completely free of charge. We don’t print your invitations until you’re 100% happy with your proofs.

You don’t have to worry about quality either: we do all our printing in house, so my team will guarantee your printing is perfect.
