Emergency Wedding Day Kit: what to include

If you’re a super organised bride to be, groom to be, chief bridesmaid, man of honour…or simply a VIP guest wanting to be prepared for any eventuality this post is for you. It’s our breakdown of what should be in your ultimate Emergency Wedding Day Kit.

No-one wants to think that there will be an emergency on their special day but in our experience – and we’ve been to a lot of weddings – there’s always a mishap (or three) and being prepared for everything and anything will put the control back in your hands and leave you feeling a whole lot better about the risk.

Beat the Bloat & Other “Oh No” Moments

The day of the ceremony will be long and a mixture of emotions. From excitement to stress, you’ll experience all the emotions and all hitting at the same time leading to possible physical symptoms you might not expect and certainly don’t want (but don’t worry – it’s totally normal!). Here’s our checklist of items to include in your Emergency Kit to help keep you calm and comfortable:

Antacid – our tummies are sensitive things so don’t let an upset one spoil your big day.

Benadryl – if you’re having an outdoors ceremony this could be a lifesaver to help reduce any effects from insect stings, allergies etc.

Blister pads – you might have taken the time to break your new shoes in but being on your feet for hours non-stop will still take its toll so be prepared with some blister pads.

Mints – keep your mouth minty and fresh from start to finish with a box of your favourite mints.

Contacts and solution – if you wear contact lenses, put an extra pair in the kit, as well as contact solution.

Deodorant – no-one wants sweat stains in their photos so keep them at bay with regular refreshes of deodorant throughout the day.

Hand gel – you’ll be shaking a lot of hands and touching a lot of things so pack a couple of travel hand sanitisers to discreetly cleanse and refresh your hands throughout the day.

Painkillers – an absolute must have as no-one can predict when a pesky headache will strike!

Snacks – snacks are always a good idea and with all socialising and photo taking and organising you will be doing throughout the day you might not get the chance to eat when food is actually available so pack a few easy snacks to keep your energy high if needed.

Water bottle – have a water bottle on hand to keep you hydrated and refreshed, trust us only drinking champagne will not end well!

For Garment Emergencies

Make sure you, and your guests, appear pristine when you say “I do” and for the subsequent photos by including the following:

Spare tights – an extra pair of tights will probably be more helpful for members of your bridal party or a guest rather than you as the bride or groom but pack them anyway.

Sewing kit – no-one wants to be sewing buttons on shirts on their wedding day but we say you supply the kit and delegate the actual repairs to someone else!

Spare earrings – this might sound like an odd one but it is so easy to lose an earring so be prepared and have a spare pair to swap in.

Touch Up Your Appearance

Make sure you’re looking radiant all day and night with our recommended Emergency Wedding Day Kit inclusions:

Blotting paper – perfect to ensure your face doesn’t appear oily in photos.

Bobby pins – a classic emergency kit must have, bobby pins are the up-do, down-do, half-up hair saviours!

Brush – keep a mini brush on hand to fix any stray hairs and/or for any restyles planned.

Fabric tape – if your dress requires the assistance of fabric tape make sure you have some extra on hand for any reapplication needed.

Floss – don’t let a stubborn piece of spinach ruin your smile for the photos.

Hairspray – even the strongest of hairsprays will need reapplying if you’re having an all-day / all night celebration.

Lint roller – an easy way to keep suits looking pristine and photo-ready.

Lip balm – you will probably have a full make-up bag stored somewhere accessible for retouches throughout the day but one top tip is to keep a lip balm on hand with you to help keep your lips hydrated and kissable!

Tissues – the inclusion of a pack (or two) of tissues is a pretty obvious call on such an emotional day but you’ll be amazed at how many couples forget and have to go in search of toilet roll to dry happy tears and wipe snotty noses – don’t be that couple!

Whether an Emergency Wedding Day Kit was already on your list to sort, or it had never entered your head before now to be so prepared, we hope our suggestions have helped. Including everything we have listed is probably OTT but there are some essential items we think you should consider to help you feel more relaxed and confident on your special day.
